Regular dental check-ups can help prevent bad breath, bleeding gums, aching jaws, sensitive or sore teeth.

At your check-up, your teeth and mouth will be checked for early signs of decay, gum disease, cracked teeth and oral cancer. Diseases including cancer, anaemia and diabetes can be identified by the dentist in a regular examination. *Oral Health Tracker, 2018.

If necessary, Dental X-rays are used to detect problems that may not be seen during a routine visual examination. We only use digital X-rays which significantly reduces the amount of radiation exposure compared with conventional X-rays.

When your teeth are professionally cleaned, plaque and calculus are removed. If left on the teeth, plaque and calculus can cause tooth decay and gum disease.

A protective fluoride coating can also be applied to help your teeth fight decay.

Healthy Teeth and Gums

Why does a dentist need to check my teeth twice a year?

Dentists don't just check your teeth for tooth decay. They evaluate the health of your gums, tongue, throat and lips, examine your mouth for oral cancer, check your saliva flow and assess the movement of the lower jaw.

Plaque and tarter can build up in a very short time. If not removed, soft plaque can harden and cause infection leading to bleeding gums. Bleeding gums are often the first sign of gum disease which, if left untreated, commonly causes the loss of teeth.

Have your mouth professionally checked every six months to diagnose tooth decay and gum disease.

What is a Dental Health Check?

Did you know that around 90% of all tooth loss is due to tooth decay and gum disease, conditions that are largely preventable with the right dental care? At your six monthly visit to the dentist, your teeth will be cleaned, a protective coating applied and the condition of your teeth and gums will be compared with your previous visit. Oral cancer, gum disease, sensitive teeth and cracked teeth can be identified and treated early to allow you to keep your natural teeth. Natural teeth are far better than false teeth or no teeth, to smile and to chew and enjoy your food.

We know that everyone’s needs are different, so our friendly team will work with you to identify and treat any of your immediate concerns. We’ll develop a personalised plan to ensure that your smile stays healthy. Our experienced dentists can assist with preventive treatments, general dental services, cosmetic procedures, teeth straightening and dental emergencies.

Has it been over six months?

It is not worth the risk waiting longer than six months.

Early signs of decay and gum disease do NOT cause pain.

Those who attend regular dental check-ups will generally spend the least amount of time and money on dentistry over a lifetime, compared with those who only attend when in pain or when they feel a tooth needs fixing.
